And Now a Word from Our Sponsor

I have a new love in my life: 3M Command Hooks.

Oh, I've seen the commercials for years and I've scoffed. How can they really hold weight without piercing or damaging a wall? Why on earth would I even need them? But today, I understood.

Today's project was to put up hooks in the hall closet. I wanted to hang a broom, two Swiffer dusters (one with an extension), a dustpan, a mop, and a upholstery-size lint roller. I put these hooks around the back wall, waited an hour for the adhesive to set, then put all the tools on the hooks. Voila! Perfect organization. No more fumbling about for anything.

The best part is that if I decide this layout of hooks doesn't work, I can change them around by just refreshing the adhesive.

After my hall closet triumph, I bought more Command Hooks. The world of organization would be mine! I eagerly headed to the bedroom closet, hanging hooks to hold the dusters and brooms for the downstairs cleaning. Then, heady with emotion for my new hook friends, I put hooks up in the studio so that I could finally get the dustpan and brush off the floor. Yay!

Finally, drunk with madness, I hung a hook in the bathroom for my robe, then added a picture hanger on the wall where I cannot use nails (because a pocket door slides inside that wall). Now I can hang a painting.

Next, I'll be writing an essay for 3M: "How Command Hooks (tm) saved my life."

Ha! Actually, as much as I love the hooks, they aren't cheap. I recommend them for places where it's difficult to hang a traditional nail and hook, or for places where you think you may want to move the hook at a later date, without blemishing the wall. For those purposes, they rock.
