Art and Surgery
Kathy and I made new journals today for our classes with Kelly Kilmer. Class starts tonight, so we've been heads-down on our project.
I think Kathy's journal just ROCKS. She used my homemade templates for the binding holes and then made up her own beading design. It's awesome, and I love the images on the cover. You probably can't tell, but she has a sheen of iridescent gold glazed over the whole book. Check it out:
Mine is hard to photograph. I put down a base coat of micaceaous iron oxide first, then went over that with interference oxide green (blue shade) and bits of interference violet oxide. It's trippy because tilted one way, it looks like it is shades of brown, and tilted another way, it's iridescent green and violet. I want some words along the top but I haven't decided on how I want to do the letters.
Of course, while I was painting the inside of the book (and getting paint all over me) UCSF called about my surgery. They scheduled it for April 19th. I asked about the anesthesia and, as I predicted, the assistant did not pass along the information. The person who called said she would switch the order to general anesthesia. I go in for a pre-op appointment earlier in the week. I hope they send me the date soon so I can block out my calendar.
Weirdly, I am edgy and anxious. I thought getting the date set would relax me, but not at all. Kathy said she knew it would happen that way. Poor thing has to live with me!
Oh, well, I'm off to make art!
