Final Chapter in the Spring Dove Family Update

Unbelievably, I forgot to post the Dove Drama Update this weekend.

On Friday, Mrs. Dove (Fiona) was making it supremely evident that she wanted those fledglings outta there. She would get in the nest so that the babies couldn't get back in. She would lean against them. She was sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Her mate, Albert, came over to try to smooth her feathers, but it didn't go so well.

Fiona: I gotta get outta here! You watch them, Mr. Family Man.

Albert: But, Fiona, girl doves always take care of the babies...that's just how it works, sweetie-pie.

Fiona: I don't care how it's always been. This is how it is right now. You watch the brats or I'll push them out today."

Closeup of Dove tension

By Sunday morning, the mom was gone and one of the fledglings was on the ground. She sat on a big rock for long, long time. Then we couldn't see her anymore. Her sibling sat beside the nest, looking down, worriedly, for signs of his sister. He couldn't bring himself to move, though.

I went outside to see where she'd disappeared to. As I closed the front door, her brother took off and flew and flew, all the way to the other side of the neighbors yard. It looked like his mom joined him (or maybe it was his sister, after all). Dove mission accomplished. Yay!
