Hair Loss Planning, the Alix Way
I have been waiting for the medical oncologist to call ever since yesterday morning's conversation with the nurse. Today, I shoved my cell phone in my cleavage so that I could walk around the house wearing pants without pockets.
"Are your breasts ringing?"
"Oh, that's just their oncologist on the line, hold on...."
Meanwhile, I've continued planning how I'm going to manage my hair loss. My hair will probably fall out 14 to 21 days after my first chemo infusion, judging from the experiences of other women. Lots of women cut their hair off-buzz cut it, actually-just before they lose it. Apparently, the scalp often starts hurting or tingling several days before the hair starts falling out, so often there's a clue.
My plan is to do my own hair cutting ceremony. Thinking of the little girl inside of me, I bet what she'd want to do is whack at these long locks with a big pair of scissors, with no rules at all. Wouldn't that be fun? I mean, how often do you get to do something like that? I could just hack it all to bits like a crazy lady, then go to the hairstylist and have her buzz cut it. Or do that myself.
Of course, the way I imagine it involves comically huge scissors, a la Looney Tunes, and I'll probably have to settle for something more mundane in scale, but it still could be fun.
Because I don't know how fast the oncologist will want to start chemo (I think we have to begin soon) I have already started looking at wigs online. I'm not concerned with matching my own hair, because everyone will know it's a wig anyway. May as well play around with it.
This is the wig that I ordered for everyday wear, because it's kind-of sort-of like my hair, only shorter and not as deep plum colored:
It has just been discontinued, so I was able to get it for half off. Yay, me!
These are the wigs I was eyeing but did not buy. Why? Well, I think I like them because the models look hot. Somewhere, in my mind, I'm going to expect that I will look like these lovely lasses in the wigs...then when I put one on, I'll find I look like same ole me, and I'll be crushed.

Don't they look like they are ready to head out on a hot misison? I think so. Maria pointed out, however, that even these models don't really look like this! Nonetheless, I'm going to keep my fantasy intact (the one that says this hair would transform me) and not order these two. Besides, they are out of my budget.
I really want to get some colorful spy wigs, but I haven't yet found the right ones. I'll keep looking and I'll post what I find. Who knows, maybe someone else out there is looking for a similar Sidney Bristow wig wardrobe. Could happen!
