Handyman Nirvana
Gustavo, one of my handymen, came over today to do some work for me. When I reviewed the main job with him (rerouting some venting) he pointed out that it really didn't need to be done right now. But I had him for the day, so I pulled out my ever-ready To Do list and started rattling off alternative tasks. Several of these were tasks that I had intended to do myself, but since I hadn't gotten around to them in months (I know, what have I been doing with my time) it seemed a good idea to have Gustavo stepped in.
So, in just six short hours, he:
- Installed a porch light that I'd had in the hall closet since we moved in
- Put up a mini chandelier in our stairwell
- Replaced the non-functioning exterior lights behind the garage and a bedroom with motion-sensitive ones
- Patched holes in the studio kitchen walls that were made by the guys who added gas piping to our kitchen
- Tried to replace the receivers on two ceiling fans (only Hunter sent us the wrong parts)
Isn't that just the prettiest little chandelier? And it was in a box for SIX MONTHS!
While Gustavo was working, I went to Kelly Moore with paint chips from the exterior of the house so that we could match the paint colors. The previous owner didn't leave any paint behind, and we have to repaint the trim where the windows were replaced.
It's amazing; I can feel the difference when I stand in the studio. I forgot that holes in your walls, even if they are covered with paper, cause a bit of a draft! I swear that the energy flow is different, too. Hmmm.
I do have some lingering guilt that I didn't do everything myself, it's true. But every time I look at that pretty chandelier in the stairwell, casting crystal shadows on the lilac walls, I smile. Who cares who did the work? In the end, I'm still left with plenty of projects that I can do myself.
All hail the handyman!
