Happy Halloween
This was the perfect day for my electric blue hair. I love the color of that wig. The wig itself is not high quality. If you compare the fibers to those on, say, my "Aqua Purple wig ," there is no contest; Aqua Purple has more fluidity, silkiness, and strength. With the electric blue wig, you don't want to comb it too much (read: at all) if you can help it.
As I was waiting to turn off of Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, a guy who was around 20, probably a UC Berkeley student, was crossing the street in front of me. His mohawk was the exact same blue as my hair! I really wanted to roll down the window and shout, "Hey, cool hair!" but he would probably be mortified. Who was this chick in the black convertible trying to break his cool? So, I said nothing.
One of the shuttle drivers called out that she loved my hair. I grinned and said, "It's such a happy color, isn't it?" She nodded vigorously. I don't know what it is about this electric shade, but it's hard for me to be depressed around it. It makes me want to go do something fun!
As I was running errands after radiation, I realized that I have a bit of a "get out of judgment free" card today. People think I'm wearing blue hair because it's part of a costume. We know it's just because I like it!
I kept my hair on all day, mostly because it's now cold and this keeps my head warm. I didn't have a costume to wear for Halloween, just my black turtleneck, black jeans, and blue hair. Nonetheless, I was hoping for trick-or-treaters and had put up Halloween decorations. I honestly can't remember doing this before, but this year it seemed really important that I have Halloween-themed window clings and a Jack-O-Lantern by the porch. I really wanted one of those signs that points in different directions to places like "Goblin Gulch" and "Witchy Way," but I restrained myself.
As it was, we had an enormous bowl of Halloween candy for kids because we always over-buy. It just seems that the worst thing would be to run out of candy when the trick-or-treaters ring the bell, so we wanted to be prepared. Unfortunately, though, almost no one comes up our hill. I'm not sure if it's because it's too much of a hike or because our neighbors keep their houses dark on Halloween, but we had only one little girl come by. I gave her two fistfuls of candy ("Here, take more!") while talking to her parents. They said they figured there was good stuff up the hill because few people probably walked up here - and they were right!
Maybe next year we need to get light up yard ornaments to lure the kids over. Wait, that sounds creepy, luring kids over. Are we going to become the scary people on the block? "Here, little boy, have some CANdeeeee....bwahahahaha!" Ah, well, I'll figure it out next year.
