Happy New Year

Happy New Year, everyone!

In hopes of having a better chance at a good year, I have made the radical decision to discontinue Tamoxifen treatment. The past several weeks have been a descent into hell thanks to my body's personal response to the drug. What good is it to lower my risk of breast cancer recurrence if I cannot enjoy my life? The anxiety was edging me toward suicidal thoughts and that is where I draw the line.

I've left a message with my oncologist to let her know my decision. I know this is not what she would medically recommend. I'm not sure what options she'll have, as now I am worried that this is how my body responds to any perceived estrogen deprivation. This really makes me nervous about natural menopause. Yikes.

On another subject, though, I accomplished something pretty fabulous today. I mounted our free plasma TV to the wall! You may remember that Circuit City said they'd do it for $450. Ha! Circuit City, I laugh in your face!

I used a Mustang MV-TILT3 Tilt Wall Mount bracket that I bought at Amazon.com for under $100. I'll tell you right off the bat that these aren't easy to install. You have to do a lot of measuring and double-checking, and you better be sure you are finding the wall studs (preferably, the center of the studs). I was lucky that I was mounting this to a wall that I could look behind to see the studs, so I was able to double-check my positioning. I drew a chalk outline of how the TV would be positioned on the bracket based on the mounting holes, then adjusted it once more before bolting the bracket to the wall. The bracket that you mount to the wall is very heavy and you must have a second set of hands to hold it up. We also needed a good ratchet tool for the bolts.

Lifting the TV onto the bracket was a tense moment, but everything worked and voila! We have a wall mounted TV! I never thought we'd have anything that cool. Between you and me, our free TV has cost us a bit of money - we had to pay tax to the IRS on the television, we bought the wall bracket, and we ordered a service plan for the TV - but it is awesome and I am thrilled. Time to watch Pirates of the Caribbean and start the New Year right!
