Hazardous Waste Party!
I think we've previously covered the fact that I love getting rid of stuff. Well, today I not only got rid of more stuff, but I did it in a new way.
I've been meaning to go to the hazardous waste disposal center for months and months. I have leftover paint in 5 gallon containers, some turpentine, and batteries that need to be safely disposed of. The turpentine and some of the batteries are things I moved with me from San Francisco, so I've actually had some of this stuff held to one side for years! I was procrastinating about taking it in, though, because I was unfamiliar with the location of the center and how it actually worked.
Well, I decided that enough was enough and I was going today. I loaded the car up and drove out to the general area. As it turns out, the instructions "next door to animal control" were not exactly accurate. In my mind, 'next door' is not the as 'across the street and down the way.' After a while of driving up and down the road in this industrial area, I finally pulled into the offices of a county agency and asked.
Once at the hazardous waste disposal, I schmoozed with the guy who took my stuff, talked hazardous waste and the differences of San Francisco vs. Walnut Creek, then hit the road in my convertible, feelin' free.
I rule hazardous waste, woo-hoo! More empty space in our garage -- FAN ME!
