Kathy's Birthday Extravaganza

Today is Kathy's birthday; she took the day off. I had made great plans for gifts that I would make for her, but what with surgery and all that, nothing actually came to fruition. Still, I wanted it to be special because ever since I've been diagnosed, everything has been all about my health issues. She needs some attention, too.

So, the first thing I did this morning was order flowers, to be delivered in the afternoon. Then, I suggested we grab a bite to eat for lunch. To make it special, I suggested we eat somewhere that she would normally think I wouldn't go. Because I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to spicy food (delicate tummy) we usually don't go out to Mexican restaurants, so today we headed to La Tapatia. It ended up being a very yummy lunch and we're certain to go back there again.

Over lunch we decided to go our favorite store (about 20-30 minutes away) to browse around. I was in a quandary because I didn't want to have the flowers arrive while we were gone, so I made up a story about needing to wait for a call from my doctor's nurse. I called the florist and they said that the delivery person was just heading up the street toward me. Kathy and I were in different rooms with an instant messenger up, so I sent her the message: "Would you get the door?" Of course, she said, "What door?" Then the doorbell rang. Hee, hee, hee...I know, I'm easily amused.

I put candles in a cake we had bought and sang her happy birthday. Then we headed out to the store. Our friends were working that evening, so I told them it was her birthday. They sang to her (really loudly and badly) and then gave her a discount. Gosh, what could be nicer?

Dinner at a fancy restaurant, that's what! We went to the Walnut Creek Yacht Club (there is no water and there are no yachts in Walnut Creek, just so you know) for delicious seafood. It rounded out the evening nicely. So, all in all, even though everything was planned at the last minute, I think it was a good save.

P.S. A special thanks goes out to the Lovely & Gracious Mrs. Dodge for her help in planning.
