Lola Gets Brave and I Do a Makeover
Lola Pie North is becoming a brave girl. I took her to the vet for her re-check, and while I know she hated every minute of it, she was not quite as terrified as before. I mean, she was scared, but she was also a little curious and I think she was trying to muster up some attitude. That's fabulous! I'm not sure if the singing helped. I sang to her on the drive home, mostly any song I could think of with most of the words replaced with, "Lola." She likes them best that way.
I've been giving her eye drops all weekend and now she can open her eye, even though it still waters. The vet noticed what I thought I was seeing - her fur on her tummy seems to be coming back! This means that she was probably licking her tummy so aggressively because it hurt. Oh, poor baby. I wish I had known what to do for her sooner. I feel like a bad mom.
While she lost a little more weight, other things (at the litter box end) are looking much better. The vet took her blood for a complete blood count and I'll find out more tomorrow. When we got home, I heard baby doves on the ground near the front door and turned her carrier around so she could see them take off around her. Just a little bonus for going out for ice cream with mom.
My computer is back up and functional, so I'm about to tackle my backlog of projects. First, though, I want to finish a crafty project I'm fiddling with. At Kelly's class, I saw that she was storing her Sharpie paint pens and Sakura Glaze pens in a Junkitz JUNK bag . The bags are cool and I actually have one, but I had shoved it in a drawer because I did not know what to store in it and it has text on the front. It has Tim Holtz's signature and JUNK BAG written on the flap. I'm not keen on the pattern and, frankly, I've never liked carrying around things that have someone else's name on them.
So, now that I am inspired to fill it up, I decided to make it over, too. Here's what it looked like to start with:
I started by painting the entire bag with Golden Carbon Black fluid acrylic paint. I used Golden because (a) it has a high pigment load and I wanted to cover up the design, and (b) I didn't think of using the Lumiere Neopaque paint until it was too late. I started by mixing the carbon black with GAC 900 (Golden's Fabric Medium) but then realized that was unnecessary, because I'm not going to toss this back in the laundry. I switched to straight paint and did two or three coats.
Once that was done, I tried various things with Lumiere Interference paints (violet and blue) and then painted back over them with black when I didn't get the look I wanted. I decided to go with something simple. I took some metal letters that I had, pounced on alcohol inks in Stream and Wild Plum, then skimmed the top of the design with Golden Iridescent Bronze paint. I glued those down, added some rhinestones, and voila!
Wouldn't YOU carry this anywhere? Well, okay, if your name was Alix. I love this to pieces now. I think Kathy wants to makeover hers next. Maybe she'll let me paint it black for her. You know how I love to paint things black!
