Never Underestimate Clever Kitties

Last night, Kathy and I were teasing Skeeter while we sat in the living room. We wanted to prove that he doesn't listen to what we say, so we were talking about how we were going to leave for a week and he would be all alone and blah blah blah. He ignored us.

You might think, of course he did, he's a cat. But if we had said that around Tilly, she would have run under the bed or curled into a ball, big scared eyes peeking out at us. Skee, however, is listening to the music in his head.

I had a nasty pain in my shoulder blade and Kathy offered to rub my back. I settled on the couch next to her so she could dig her fingers into my muscles (which was exactly what I needed). I made funny "ow, ow", "no, keep going" sounds while she rubbed my back. Kathy jokingly asked Skee if he wanted to help. Suddenly, I felt a pressure on my other shoulder. I looked to see that Skee had walked along the back of the sofa to come over me and was now leaning over, pressing one paw into my shoulder.

"Do you need me to help, Alix?" he seemed to say. Awwww, what a sweetie!

So, maybe he does pay attention. He just ignores us when we say silly stuff.

(Lola would like me to point out that SHE pays attention to everything, all of the time. It's her job to supervise. Just the other night, she jumped up onto the coffee table and tried to bury my bottle of antibiotic. The Keflex smells NASTY (rather sulphuric) and even with the cap on, she knew it was bad. "Mom, that smells like poo. We need to get rid of it." I know, honey, I know.)
