No News is … Frustrating!
This morning, on her drive to work, Kathy called me to wish me luck today at the surgeon's appointment. Thing is, we weren't sure what would constitute good luck.
My appointment was at 11 am, which meant that I was taken to the exam room at 11:45. I had a good chat with the person who takes my vitals - I remember her well from chemo - so that was nice. The surgeon popped her head in after I had waited about 10 minutes. She said she was going to examine my films and then she'd be back.
Fifteen minutes later (which is a long time when you think someone is just looking at your mammogram!) she came back in to talk to me. She said that one good thing is that my cancer wasn't related to microcalcifications, so this could well be of no concern. But because the microcalcifications are new and in the lumpectomy site, we need to consider them.
The good news (I guess there is good news) is that she doesn't want to operate on me for this. In those 15 minutes of waiting, she was meeting with the radiologist and they decided that a stereotactic core needle biopsy would work. (Ah, see! I knew that's what she'd want to do. I'm not a doctor; I just play one on the Internet.) So, she figures they will schedule me for the needle biopsy next week and then she'll meet with me the following week to give me the results. Best case, then, is two more weeks until I find out more.
I'm just waiting for the scheduling call right now. I'm glad Kathy had me order some Nita Leland's Exploring Color books. I think some color mixing exercises are just what I need to get my mind off all of this.
