The part where everything goes wrong

Working against the advice of our realtor, we have a handyman doing the remodel of the bathroom as we speak. I had already bought the materials (vanity, sink, faucets, mirrors, shower doors) before she weighed in with her opinion. Besides, Kathy always hated that bathroom and if the owner couldn't stand it, it's not going to attract buyers. With only a single bathroom in the house, we think it's gotta look good. We're going for fresh, contemporary, and clean-looking…and in the end, that's what it will be.

But right now, it's torn up and becoming more expensive by the minute.

It turns out that the huge, nasty, oak-trimmed medicine cabinet (surface mounted, not recessed) was hiding a big hole in the wall. The light fixture above it was mounted so that a replacement won't align with the vanity. Patching the drywall and moving the junction box is going to cost us.

Then, when I took a shower faucet handle to the plumbing supply company to get a replacement, I found out that unless I replaced the fixtures with the exact same make and model (available only in nickel-and-brass, EW!), we have to replace the plumbing inside the wall, too. Seriously, it's true. That means opening up the wall in the bedroom and…well, more money.

Meanwhile, the light kits on the fans I mail ordered are backordered, so I've been hunting around locally trying to find light kits that work. So far, everyone is out of stock. Somebody has got to have them and I will track 'em down. I think it would be bad to show a house where flipping a light switch doesn't illuminate any of the bedrooms. We want them to see it so that they want to buy it, after all.

This stage of the project always keeps me hopping. Imagine what trouble I'd be causing if I didn't have this to worry about?
