Please Report to the Tranquility Center

Today's title is actually an instruction flashed to Lincoln Six Echo in the movie The Island. Hey, I need to report to the tranquility center, too! Where is it?

I decided that my tranquility center is located in my art studio. I haven't been spending enough time there of late. What with all recent stressors (sick kitty cat, waiting for a surgical biopsy, broken computer in repair, and more) I find myself needing to create.

I just love color, so I started out by making this very colorful art journal to use for my color studies:

Art journal with colo wheel on front and beadwork on spine

I like how the beading came out on the binding, but oh, was that annoying to do. Maybe it's because I did it at midnight, I dunno. Of course I stabbed myself with the awl while putting the holes in the journal and I had to keep taking the needle off the waxed linen cord to thread it through the beads, but now that it is over, it seems worth it.

This weekend Kathy and I are taking more classes from our friend Kelly Kilmer who is coming up to teach at Stamper's Warehouse . I wanted to make a journal in which to put all my collage exercises. Of course, because I need to make the journal, I have absolutely no ideas. So, I just went with color and a design that I like. I used the scrapbook version of that fabric I fell in love with last summer . I'm not even done and I want to eat this journal for dinner.

I met Sue for lunch today. Afterwards, we went by Michaels where I looked for some spacer beads I needed. I felt like I didn't find exactly what I wanted, so I went by JoAnn's afterward. They had just restocked their bead section AND had a sale of 40% off all jewelry-making supplies. I went crazy picking out possibilities, and it still only cost me $7.73! That's a deal

Here's the beaded version - note that I want to do more with the cover, but I don't know what that will be just now:

Amazingly, I find myself worrying that my journal is more "designerly" and not "artsy." Like, exactly how does this matter, Alix? I smile whenever I look at both the journals - why should I care what anyone else thinks they say about my talent or skill? I'm crazy sometimes.

I'm going to watch the high-def version of the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End trailer a couple of times, then report back to the tranquility center. More updates to follow.

P.S. Yahoo Movies has the AWE HD trailer. Have you seen it yet? No? GO NOW! This looks like the best one yet. Be still, my pirate heart!
