Small Victories in Big Battles

Ah, finally, a day of success.

My new drive enclosure was delivered to me from Newegg this afternoon. It works like a dream. Very easy hardware install and no problems at all. I managed to backup my system drive and hookup my data drive. I still can't do everything I did on the desktop system because I either can't install the applications on the laptop or installation is complicated (like with development tools) and I haven't gotten around to it yet. But I have all my writing and know that I have not lost anything.

Kathy keeps murmuring about how I need to set up a disk mirror. I think she's concerned that the Information Diva (me) might be a bit reckless with her data of late. I agree that a disk mirror is a good idea. That's where you have another drive that keeps a real-time copy of everything you write to the another drive. That way, you always have a duplicate of everything, created as you go, without having to rely on scheduled backups. Yeah, yeah, she's right. Don't ask me why I haven't done it sooner.

The second success today is that UCSF finally called me. Of course, I had nothing to do with that success, since I called them three business days in a row with no call back. I have a biopsy scheduled for Wednesday the 14th and a surgeon appointment on Wednesday the 21st. They are double booking the surgeon to fit me in, so I assume she'll just blurt out the results and run out of the room. And, you know, that's probably fine with me.

They are making such a production out of this biopsy that I realize how strange the last core needle biopsy was. Last time I was told I was getting the biopsy with less than two hours notice (it may have been an hour, not sure). I had taken ibuprofen that morning for cramps and hadn't eaten, which caused a bit of a fuss, but after they stuffed a bagel into me, everyone calmed down and they did the procedure. I assumed it was no big deal.

Well, this time they are telling me to check in at 8 am, because that's the only time they do these procedures (oh, really?). They also said not to take ibuprofen or aspirin for seven days beforehand. Gosh, I guess I'm lucky I didn't bleed all over last time, eh? Or maybe I did - it's hard to see what's going on when you are shoving your breast in a hole in a table and laying with your face smooshed to one side. Gosh, I'm really looking forward to doing THAT again!

Well, progress is progress. At least now I'm ready to send my computer back for repair and I know my schedule. Onward...
