Spastic Spring Cards
Last Fall, I picked up a pink lei at the 99-cent store. It is made of silk flowers and is just so gosh-darn perky. The second I bought it, I knew I had to take it apart and use the flowers for something crafty. For a while, the only crafty purpose they served was to embellish Tilly when she walked across the island in the studio, or slept on the roller carts that I shoved under the overhang to the island. Tilly was quite the flower power girl.
A few days ago, I wanted to make cards for people and decided I'd use those flowers. This is what happens when I work on organizing my studio -- I get off my bottom and follow through with a couple of those great ideas! Sometimes I find out that they weren't so great, but this time, I was happy with my results.
This is my card for my fabulous friend Joni in Vancouver. Isn't it spastic? I used oversized yellow brads to hold the flowers down and glued the pink glitter letters in place with soft gel medium. The fabulous psychedelic orange-and-pink paper is part of SandyLion's Disney collection - that's Tink Fairy Lilies. I had to go check; all I thought when I bought it was, "pretty!"
I made several of this card, one as a mother's day card for my father's wife. I photographed it with the lei so you can see where the flowers came from...and see that I could make 200 more cards if I wanted to!
It's really the background paper that makes these work. Normally I don't use these great papers for cards because, at some level, I think I'm cheating if I do. But, you know, you have to recall that I like to do everything the hard way. I'm glad I didn't on these perky puppies.
Kathy said they don't look like Alix cards at all. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but they got done, and that's what counts!
