The Sweetest Dove Family in the Land

Angie is the dove who moved in after Fiona and her family left. For a while I feared she was a single mother (maybe even a widow!) because I never saw her mate, Gary. But it turned out that Gary and Angie look startlingly alike...uh, not that I'm great at telling the difference between doves!

For some reason, fledglings always leave their nest on weekends at this house. It's rather convenient as we get to watch the drama. Bobby, Annie's brother, left early on Friday night. We saw him sitting on the roof of Kathy's car, with his feet tucked under him in that funny way fledglings sit, like they don't know how to stand because they've spent so much time in the nest.

Annie, however, just couldn't leave the nest. It was too scary. It was like a rerun of Becky the Dove, only with a key difference. Angie and Gary were just wonderful with Annie. They snuggled against her and leaned their heads over like they were having a chat with her about flying. Annie would indicate she was still afraid, then mom or dad would move between her and the Great Outside, shielding her from flying. Annie would settle down. Honestly, sweetest dove family EVER.

Here's the ever-patient Angie comforting Annie.

We can't help but wonder if Angie is Becky, all grown up and now a mommy of her own. I can't help but want to tag the doves electronically so that I can know!

Here she is saying, brightly, "It's okay, Annie. You can fly tomorrow!"

This morning, when Kathy left for work, Angie and Annie were still in the nest together. When I checked in again at 10:30 am, the nest was empty. I couldn't help but clap and cheer; I'm such a dork! Yay, Annie!
