Waiting

Closeup of a pretty and inquisitive shorthair brown Tabby

This morning, I had to take Lola to the veterinary specialists for a consultation. Poor little kitty has been to the vet so many times this year, as we try to keep her (apparent) inflammatory bowel disease under control. With her most recent flare up, her vet confessed that she was at a loss about what to do next, so she referred me to a gastro-intestinal specialist.

It's stressful, because I want so much for Lola to be healthy, and yet at the same time, I don't like scaring her with all of these trips to the vet. She is such a sweetheart; in the exam room, she burrows into me to hide. I can hear feel her heart race and hear her hyperventilate. I wish she understood why we had to do this.

Well, today was supposed to be just a meeting to talk about her condition, but the vet recommended an upper and lower endoscopy, saying she could do it today. Now, previously Lola's regular vet mentioned a surgical intestinal biopsy, which is much more invasive than endoscopy, and I declined at that time for a variety of reasons. Today, I knew we had to do something, and at least this wouldn't mean cutting her open, so I said yes. Good thing I fasted her after midnight just in case that was important.

I signed the agreement to pay them $2,100+ today (gulp!) and sweet-talked my little tabby before slipping out the door. I pick her up in three hours, yet that's not soon enough for me. Frankly, I'm not getting a thing done, because my baby is under anesthesia and she doesn't know why they did all those rude things to her beforehand. Times like this, I wish she could hear my thoughts and feel safe.

So, I've got fingers crossed right now that she'll be fine with the anesthesia and that they will get a good idea of how to make her all better. Tilly and I will spend the afternoon pacing. But you...well, you have the option to crack up like I did when I saw this handmade sign in the exam room:

Unattended children will be given espresso and a free kitten

ROTFLOL! That's guaranteed to strike fear in the hearts of mothers everywhere!

Aww, your poor kitty :( I hope she's okay and hopefully the vet will be able to figure out exactly why she's been sick. One of my kitties is so terrified of the vet he drools when I take him.

Hehehe, espresso and free kittens!

I thought about you today, though, when I saw that Mythbusters did another pirate special, testing some movie scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean! It's even in HD :)

Oooh, I'll have to see if they re-run that special! IN HD! Thanks for the heads up.

Oh, I hope everything turns out well. I'll be thinking of you and the kitties today.

Oh Alix!! I hope that Lola is ok and home again soon!!!

Hugs,
Kelly
