Yeah, sometimes? Not so smart.

Yesterday afternoon I was feeling badly, still with the sore throat and general yuckiness, so I thought I would take a nap. I stretched out on the bed, feeling just awful. The longer I lay there, the more I … felt the same. After about twenty minutes, I got brilliant the idea that maybe I didn't need to rest…maybe I just need to drill holes in something!

So I got up and moved the furniture out of the closet (what? you don't have furniture in your closet?) then spent some time measuring for a shelf I've been meaning to put up for six months. Insert 50s-style busy music with lots of plucky violins. I got the shelf and hardware from the garage, then carried it back downstairs and tried to install it. As a last step after installing back clips into the wall, you hook the shelf onto the brackets in the front.

Only, mine wouldn't hook and instead the shelf kept falling on my head while I tried to check the level.
This didn't work so well. I was coughing and short of breath, quickly growing tired of holding my arms over my head. I called Closetmaid for help. They said that the hardware I bought last February was discontinued a long time ago and they'd have to send me new ones, in a week to ten days.

With a sigh, I moved the furniture back into the closet.
Frustrated at the lack of success with the shelf, I went into the living room and hung two display units that we've had sitting around for months, waiting for me to mount to the wall. Still, I felt fussy and sick. It's possible that drilling wasn't helping that much.

When Kathy called on her way home form work and I could tell she'd had a bad day. So, not only did I decide to make her one of her favorite meals for dinner, but I also baked her a cake to cheer her up.

The end result? Today I was too sick and tired to go with Kathy to the hair stylist. I finally got a flashlight out and looked at my throat, only to find that I have icky sores all over. No wonder I was hurting! I know this is chemo-related, but I better call the cancer center on Monday.

And next time I think that drilling is the cure for sickness, I hope someone is home to smack me upside the head!
