You Just Never Know Who Going to be Cool
Okay, so I got up my nerve to wear this wig:
Previously, I had thought it would require a shot of whisky and an exotic moniker to carry off this microbraided wonder, but given that I have to drive a 40-mile round trip and hospitals panic with name changes, I skipped the confidence boosters.
I chose Friday to wear this because this is the day of the week when I see my radiation oncologist. I have decided to save the most colorful wigs for these appointments because...well...somebody needs to cheer these doctors up! This doctor, in particular, loves fun hair, which is that much more fun for me.
The surprise for me was finding out that this hair looked pretty cute on me. No way did I expect that! One nurse said she felt like she should address me as Queen Alexandria in this do. I kind of did feel like I should come in on a barge.
I have learned that you cannot guess how people will respond to funky hair based on how they look themselves. One tech who often walks me back from the radiation room to the dressing rooms looks very conservative. He told me that he's from the East Coast where everyone is buttoned up. When he came out here (especially here in Berkeley) he saw people with green, blue, and pink hair...and he loves it! He told me he was happy I was doing this with the wigs.
So, just goes to show, cool people come in all guises.
